Elavon, the merchant services payment provider for U.S. Bank, has ascended two spots in the 2025 Nilson Report rankings, securing its position as the fifth-largest U.S. merchant acquirer and the second-largest bank-owned acquirer based on Mastercard and Visa purchase volume.
According to the Nilson Report (Issue 1282, March 2025), Elavon has improved its position in several key categories. It is now the fifth-largest acquirer of Visa and Mastercard volume in the U.S., up from seventh place the previous year. When considering total purchase volume, including Visa, Mastercard, and other credit and PIN-debit cards, Elavon ranks sixth, also an improvement from seventh. The company maintained its position as the fourth-largest acquirer of card-not-present volume, a critical metric for e-commerce transactions.
“Our innovative, tech-led payment products and solutions are valuable to businesses we serve, from your favorite local restaurant or shop to some of the largest hospitality brands and airlines in the world,” said Jamie Walker, CEO of Elavon. “We intend to continue to deliver what our clients need and solve the business and payment processing challenges they face.”
Elavon is a global leader in payments, processing over $576 billion in transactions annually. Backed by U.S. Bank—the fifth-largest commercial bank in the U.S.—Elavon offers a wide array of scalable payment solutions and cutting-edge technology for businesses of all sizes. It serves as the payment processor for eight of the top 10 global airlines and is the trusted provider for seven of the 10 largest hotel brands in the United States.
Strategic partnerships have played a key role in Elavon’s growth, including integrations with Delta Air Lines for Tap-to-Pay on iPhone, Virgin Atlantic, SEPTA (Southeast Pennsylvania Transit Authority), the California Restaurant Association, and more.
The 2024 acquisition of healthcare payments provider Salucro has bolstered Elavon’s offerings in the healthcare space, providing expanded value to clients and prospects in that sector.
