TruLegal Launches Industry-First Legal AI Self-Assessment as Demand for AI-Fluent Talent Accelerates

Legal Tech · AI Hiring 3 min read

TruLegal, the AI-enabled talent solutions provider formerly known as TRU Staffing Partners, has rolled out a new tool aimed at closing the widening gap between legal professionals who claim AI experience and those who can actually prove it. The free assessment is now live and covers more than 60 legal AI platforms, from Harvey and CoCounsel to Relativity aiR, Ironclad, Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot Studio.

"This assessment does not test for knowledge, but rather scores for confidence."

— Sandy Scott, AI Enablement & Systems Integration Manager, TruLegal

Why the Assessment Exists

TruLegal frames the launch as a response to AI adoption in the legal industry outpacing the workforce's ability to keep up. Hiring managers struggle to separate candidates who genuinely understand specific AI tools from those who simply list them on a resume, while candidates often find it hard to translate hands-on experience into language recruiters can act on. The new self-assessment is designed to give both sides a shared, structured reference point instead of vague claims during interviews.

"The TruLegal AI Self-Assessment bridges both sides of that divide, giving candidates an intentional way to showcase their skills."

— Jared Coseglia, Founder & CEO, TruLegal

How It Works

Candidates rate their experience across 11 areas of legal discipline, including legal research and analysis, drafting and document work, eDiscovery and litigation support, M&A and due diligence, and privacy, data, and information governance. Results feed directly into candidates' TruLegal profiles, giving employers a clearer signal of AI proficiency during the hiring process. TruLegal also plans to use aggregated, anonymized results to publish quarterly and annual market intelligence reports, building on the precedent set by its earlier Relativity Self-Assessment, which informed a five-year analysis of that platform's impact on the eDiscovery job market.

Key Takeaways
1

Free and open access. The TruLegal AI Self-Assessment is available now at no cost to all legal professionals.

5

Ongoing market research. Aggregated results will feed TruLegal's future quarterly and annual reports on legal AI hiring trends.
