Notta Spotlights Privacy Mode for Notta Desktop: Bot-Free, Local Transcription for Sensitive Meetings

HR Tech · Meeting Intelligence 3 min read

Notta, the Tokyo-based meeting transcription and AI notes company, has highlighted Privacy Mode for its Notta Desktop beta — a bot-free recording workflow that lets eligible users transcribe supported meetings locally, keeping sensitive conversations off the cloud and under tighter data control.

Announced on July 3, 2026, the feature addresses a growing pain point for teams that rely on AI notetakers but hesitate to invite a visible bot into confidential calls. Notta Desktop captures system and microphone audio directly from the user's computer, which means it can record conversations across Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Webex, and other conferencing tools without adding an extra participant to the meeting.

"Not every conversation belongs in the cloud."

— Ryan Zhang, CEO, Notta

Built for Conversations Where Discretion Matters

Privacy Mode extends the bot-free workflow to situations where cloud processing may not be appropriate. When enabled, recordings and transcripts stay on the user's device, ready to be turned into summaries, action items, internal documentation, or customer notes. Notta positions the desktop client for customer calls, legal reviews, financial discussions, internal strategy meetings, and research interviews — the kinds of conversations where privacy, discretion, or simply keeping the meeting room uncluttered take priority.

Beyond local capture, the desktop client includes meeting detection, one-click recording prompts, and support for both in-person and online meetings, making it a single tool for hybrid work environments.

The goal, Zhang explained, is to give users greater control over how sensitive meetings are captured — without forcing a bot into the room.
