Wellstar Health System Rolls Out Swift™ AI Scheduling Copilot
vflok™ Inc., a workforce AI startup, is scaling its agentic AI platform across Wellstar Health System’s 11 hospitals. The Swift™ AI Scheduling Copilot, following a successful pilot, will assist more than 8,000 nurses and additional non-clinical staff at the Georgia nonprofit health system.
Successful Pilot Demonstrates Efficiency Gains
During a six-month pilot at three Wellstar hospitals, Swift reduced change management time-on-task by 86% for nurses and support staff and 96% for nurse managers. Over 98% of users interacted with Swift via SMS text/chat, eliminating the need to log into the scheduling system and streamlining unit onboarding.
“Swift has shown a reduction in nurse manager burden, allowing nurse leaders to spend less time on administrative tasks and more time focused on patient care,” said Susan Thurman, VP Nursing Practice & Clinical Integration at Wellstar. “By enabling our nurses to focus on patient care, we further improve outcomes and team satisfaction.”
How Swift Works
Swift combines Generative AI with advanced machine learning to improve schedule flexibility, reduce administrative burden, and optimize workforce deployment. Key features include:
- 1:1 and group AI-managed conversations between teams and managers
- Scheduling decisions based on preferences, historical behavior, unit economics, rules, and real-time constraints
- Automated coverage sourcing, communication, approvals, and schedule updates
- Probabilistic algorithms to fill shift vacancies faster
Future Enhancements
Swift plans to introduce new AI solutions, including auto-balancing for nurse managers to reduce time-on-task from 8–10 hours per month to minutes, and optimization solutions for Internal Contingency (“Float”) teams.
